The Tahitian dancing belongs to the group of the most interesting dances from Polynesia. It is typical for its dynamism, pelvis and hip movements and highly demanding techniques (shakes, twirling, etc.) danced both by men and women. All these specific body features are then completed by the characteristic movements of arms. The Tahiti Island is also interesting from the ethnicity of costumes point of view; these costumes are very diverse, made from the natural materials, and their special feature is a high crown, which can be more than one metre high.
Tahitian Dance
Ajna performs these dances in various arrangements – in the original fibre costume with a high crown decorated by orchids or in a traditional Tahitian attire of solo dancers.
Ajna dances even to life music; she is usually accompanied by 1-3 musicians playing the original instruments of Oceania. These dancing exhibitions can be performed by several dancers as well (Trn v Oku group), and they can be combined with the Hawaiian or Cook Islands dances, traditional music or the Fire Show. This mixture results in a delightful Hawaiian Soirée.
